Te Aponga Uira Announces Board Appointments and Leadership Changes
September 16, 2026Important Notice: Be Prepared Safety Message
Following the latest weather updates from the Cook Islands Meteorological Service (CIMS), Te Aponga Uira (TAU) encourages customers and the wider community to remain informed and prepared for possible bad weather over the coming days.
Strong winds and heavy rain can cause trees and debris to fall onto powerlines and electrical infrastructure, potentially resulting in power outages and safety hazards.
Customers are encouraged to secure loose items around their properties, check emergency supplies and ensure backup generators (where applicable) are in safe working condition. Avoid trimming trees or branches near powerlines during this time.
Electrical Safety Reminders
- Always treat fallen or damaged powerlines as live. Never approach, touch or attempt to move them.
- Keep clear of damaged electrical equipment, including pillar boxes and substations.
- If a powerline falls onto your vehicle, remain inside and contact emergency services for assistance.
For power outage, contact TAU's 24-hour Fault Service on 25257. When reporting an outage, please have your power connection number ready. This can be found in the top right corner of your emailed electricity bill or on the meter box at your property, if safe to access.
TAU will respond to reported faults, make affected areas safe and work to restore electricity as quickly as conditions safely allow, and we ask in advance for your patience and co-operation.
Customers are encouraged to continue following official weather updates from CIMS and relevant authorities.
