Electrical Engineer

The role is responsible to assist with the development, maintenance and operations of the power system on Rarotonga.  The role covers responsibilities in both the Network and Generation division, with responsibilities in TAU’s Renewable Energy development.

In particular, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for preparing project proposals, assisting in planning, designing and the implementation of the projects.  Planning maintenance programmes, continuously monitoring the technical performance of all renewable energy system and support the development of major works associated with alternative energy initiatives undertaken to support Cook Islands national renewable energy goals. The Electrical Engineer will ensure compliance with strategic and regulatory requirements and will collaborate fully with TAU’s other divisional teams through consultation, cross divisional engineering support.

This is a hands-on position; the successful applicant will have excellent time management and problem solving skills with the ability to forward planning, providing technical support and guidance to operational staff, assisting in troubleshooting and resolving issues on the system.  

The position reports to the Chief Engineer and Chief Executive Officer as required.

The successful applicant will need a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from a recognised institution with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in the utility or energy sector, proficiency in engineering software tools, such as AutoCAD for design and analysis, along with an awareness of industry trends regarding alternative energy generation.

The role is responsible for managing the TAU distribution system, including works for the systems development, maintenance, operations and Network Division staff management.  Consulting with the Chief Engineer in matters of network distribution, design and extension, planned maintenance, scheduled outages and emergencies including unscheduled outages.   

This is a hands-on position; the successful applicant will have excellent time management and problem solving skills with the ability to forward planning, and be prepared for hands-on monitoring of performance of the Network with the ability to communicate at all levels with the different Divisions throughout TAU.

The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

The successful applicant will need a Diploma in Electrical Engineering or related field from a recognised institution with a minimum of 6 years’ experience working in the Electrical industry. Minimum 4 years work experience in electrical engineering and project management.
