Te Aponga Uira (TAU) wishes to advise customers and visitors of a third planned island-wide electricity outage which will take place from 1 am this Sunday 9 June 2024. This outage is expected to last at least six hours. This outage is necessary as TAU works to replace critical infrastructure (switch gear) at its generation site.
Power took longer than expected to restore from last week’s planned outage but this is not unexpected given the complexity of the work. In addition, the team was also able to complete other related work during this outage time, towards closing the project more quickly. TAU acknowledges the significant efforts of its team for their commitment working through the night to enable timely power restoration for the island. TAU also thanks customers for their patience and understanding
Outages continue to be carefully planned and timed for minimal disruption to residents and visitors, and our team of more than 20 will once again be working through the night at our generation site and around the network to carry out this critical work and get electricity back up and running.
Some points we would like to raise to your attention ahead of this outage:
Keep an eye on TAU’s website, www.teaponga.com, and Facebook page for updates on the project.
Rarotonga enjoys one of the most reliable supplies of electricity across the Pacific, and this work is to help ensure reliability for years ahead.
